"The Hampstead Tube was extended overground from Golders Green to Edgware in 1923-4, prompting new development in what had been open countryside around every station. Fred Taylor's poster makes the point without the need for a single word of copy. A brand new tube station appears at the centre of a bustling suburban building site" (Underground p. 47). This, "the best of the construction period posters . . . shows a newly built station at the centre of frenzied house building activity. Dominated by the roundel logo, the station is positioned as both the agent of progress and a reassuring presence in the midst of a rapidly changing scene. No other words are necessary to convey the Tube's impact on the area" (London Transport p. 119). London Transport p. 119 , Underground p. 47.
